AYSO Section 9 Soccer – Tournament Dates for 2015

April 17th, 2015 | Posted by webmaster in News - (0 Comments)

AYSO is a “recreation league” for all age groups and all playing abilities. However, in the spring of every year, most regions hold try-outs for age groups U10 and above to create “Summer Select” teams that play in tournaments against other AYSO regional teams during the summer months.

Here are the AYSO Section 9 Soccer Tournaments for 2015:

Cottonwood Invitational (Cottonwood Heights, UT)
Approved: YES
Dates: June 11-13, 2015
Web Page:

Golden Spike Classic (Brigham City, UT)
Approved: NO
Dates: June 18-20, 2015
Web Page: AYSO Region 138 Tournament Page

Syracuse Stampede (Syracuse, UT)
Approved: YES
Dates: June 24-27, 2015
Web Page:

Roy Days (Roy, UT)
Approved: NO
Dates: July 15-18, 2015
Web Page:

High Valley (Liberty, Eden, Huntsville, UT)
Approved: NO
Dates: July 22-25, 2015
Web Page:

Summer Select participants could play an additional 20 to 25 games in June and July. Coaches usually require some extra practices and require more of the individual player as far as skill and commitment to the team goes. It is a GREAT opportunity for players to get more competition and test their skills against other regions and leagues.

Emilio Fuenes - AYSO Soccer

Emilio Funes

Eight years ago I received a call from someone I didn’t understand very well.  He wanted to help me. I had just agreed to become Regional Commissioner for Region 354.  My husband, Dain, and I were going to handle this together, but needless to say, we were absolutely overwhelmed. We had no training and nobody around to help us. We needed all the help we could get.  The name of the man on the phone was Emilio Funes.  He came to our home sometime later and gave Dain and me advice on how to set teams and what it meant to run an AYSO region.  It was the start of a beautiful relationship with a beautiful Argentinian man regarding the beautiful game.

Emilio became a fixture at the fields and our home.  He helped us coach countless kids and train scores of coaches.  His skills were unmatched by anyone we have ever come in contact with through the soccer world.  We quickly told all of the kids he helped train and coach that if you were lucky enough to have Emilio pull you aside and give you one on one advice, you listened and did what he said. His advice was invaluable.  He could take an average player and make them above average.  He took average coaches and made them great coaches.  He loved the kids and the game.  He spent hundreds upon hundreds of hours of his time training and coaching with no monetary compensation.  He just loved the game and the kids.

Emilio was a very special man who devoted his life to AYSO. His knowledge and skill of soccer were unsurpassed.  Losing Emilio will leave a hole in our hearts, our Region and this world.  Region 354 has set up a Scholarship in his name to fund children who can’t afford to pay registration fees.  If you would like to donate, please send donations to AYSO Region 354, P.O. Box 457, Sandy, Utah 84070 for the Emilio Funes Scholarship Fund.

Emilio we love you and we will miss your fantastic bear hugs.
